  1. Who is eligible to apply as an internal applicant?

    All current employees on a fixed term and permanent contract of employment are eligible to apply for internal vacancies. Employees employed via a Secondment or through an Agency can apply for internal recruitments, however restrictions may apply. If there are restrictions, this will be evident when completing the application.

  2. How do I apply for an internal vacancy?

    Submit your application through the internal job portal following the instructions in the job advert. Internal adverts are communicated through internal vacancy bulletin via email.

  3. Do internal applicants have an advantage over external candidates?

    Internal applicants are valued for their understanding of the university's culture and processes, but all candidates are evaluated based on their skills, knowledge and experience.

  4. Can I apply for multiple internal vacancies simultaneously?

    Yes, you can apply for multiple vacancies, but ensure that you meet the requirement as stated in the person specification for each role and tailor your application to highlight relevant experience.

  5. How will applying for an internal vacancy affect my current role?

    Applying for an internal vacancy will not affect your current role. If you are selected for the new role, a transition plan will be discussed to ensure a smooth handover.

  6. How long does the internal hiring process take?

    The timeline can vary, but you will be kept informed about the status of your application throughout the process. Typically, it can take a few weeks from application to final decision.

  7. Can I retract my internal application after submission?

    Yes, you can retract your application by informing the People Directorate as soon as possible.

    Your current performance reviews are often considered in the selection process to assess your suitability and past contributions to the university.

    The university offers Interview skills for candidates training which provides an opportunity to boost your interview skills and increase your chances of success.

    Yes, appropriate training and onboarding will be provided to help you transition smoothly into your new role.

  13. Can I seek feedback if I am not selected?

    Yes, you are encouraged to seek feedback from the People Directorate to understand the areas for improvement and to enhance your skills for future applications.

  14. Are internal applicants required to go through a probationary period in the new role?

    Probationary period will only apply if you are changing terms and conditions of employment such as an Administrative Officer secures a role as a Lecturer. The skills required are different therefore a probation period will be necessary. In all cases, goals will be set to ensure a good fit in the new role.

  15. Will my salary change if I am selected for the new role?

    If you secure a role within the same pay grade, there will be no change, however if the new role is a promotion, you will be placed at the bottom of the pay grade.
