The International Student Advice service is situated in the Student & Academic Services directorate. The specialism of the service is providing professional immigration advice to our students, whilst considering their circumstances holistically. This means working collaboratively with other teams across the university to achieve the best outcomes for students; and being able to advise on a number of practical issues in addition to immigration. More than just an immigration advice service; the team works to represent the interests of individual students and of the international student body as a whole across the organisation. 

The Role

We are looking for an experienced immigration adviser to join our advice service. 

Joining existing International Student Advisers in the team, the successful candidate will provide information, guidance, and specialist immigration advice to applicants and students (and their dependants) through a mixture of confidential one-to-one sessions, group workshops, and    via email.

As well as delivering immigration advice which is fully OISC accountable and with a strong customer service focus, this role also involves: pro-actively advocating for the needs of international students across the organisation; working collaboratively with other teams across the university to deliver maximum impact on students and creating engaging digital content for international students.

The role holder will join the service at a point in time where we are seeking to make changes to the way we deliver our service, to have maximum impact on the student experience and outcomes. As such, they will have significant opportunities to contribute to shaping these changes.  

The role is primarily based at our Greenwich Maritime campus, but the role holder will be expected to be willing to travel to other campuses as required.

Your Profile

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the immigration rules as they apply to students, graduates and dependants, and demonstrable track record of advising on complex cases; including work that would be considered to be at OISC level 2.

Confidence in presenting to varied and large audiences is essential, as is strong confidence and competency when it comes to written articulacy. 

The successful candidate will be confident to manage their caseload and varying responsibilities and projects with independence. They will also be fully adept at operating collaboratively as part of a team and with other teams across the organisation. They will be adaptable, dynamic and receptive to new ways of working and continuous improvement.

This is a professional, demanding role within a complex organisation with an ambitious strategic plan and agenda for change. As such, and within this context, the successful candidate will bring their experience, enthusiasm, and skills to contribute to the advice service’s impact.
