The University of Greenwich is a leading UK institution known for its commitment to impactful and socially engaged research. Within the university, the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) is a specialist research institute with a global reputation for addressing food systems challenges, sustainable development, and social justice. NRI’s interdisciplinary teams collaborate closely with partners in the Global South to generate evidence that informs policy and practice. This postdoctoral role sits within NRI’s vibrant research environment, benefiting from its long-standing expertise in participatory and applied research.
Food systems are increasingly recognised as critical sites where gender inequalities shape labour conditions, access to resources, and exposure to violence. Yet Gender‑Based Violence (GBV) within food systems—across agricultural labour, value chains, and contexts of food insecurity—remains significantly under‑researched.
This postdoctoral position forms part of a cutting‑edge, transdisciplinary initiative exploring GBV in food systems through a feminist, intersectional, and decolonial lens, drawing on creative and embodied methodologies and audio-visual material. The successful candidate will contribute to generating new evidence and creative outputs that inform policy, practice, and public understanding.
Role overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in gender, creative methodologies, and/or food systems. The role involves co-producing audio‑visual and written research outputs, co‑designing materials with stakeholders, and contributing to high‑impact academic publications. The researcher will work closely with partners in Colombia and Nigeria and support dissemination to diverse audiences.
